Several people have been the subject of hate, ridicule, or derogatory comments at some point in their lives. We’re sure you’ve heard or seen your fair share of body shaming and opinionated comments on sexual orientation. It’s unnerving, scary, and disappointing to see that one’s self-image and body are topics that attract bad energy.

Unfortunately, social media has made it possible for people to hide behind their screens and blatantly scrutinize the business of others. Some of us will admit to feeling uncomfortable with what we see or hear but actively exercise restraint.

It’s natural to feel those emotions, particularly since we’ve been conditioned to think a certain way.

For many, it’s not easy to believe in themselves when surrounded by a misunderstood, unaccepting society. It takes guts and self-acceptance to put yourself out there. Proudly and without shame.

The Fight To Be Heard and Seen

The notion of what defines beauty has stemmed from fashion magazines, promoters of fad diets, and designers who restrict their work to only skinny women. Many still portray these ideas through false, misleading marketing.

Thanks to the power of the internet, the online community is not having it anymore. All it takes now is a tweet or conversation thread to call out corporations and individuals who marginalize, criticize, and dehumanize certain communities.

While we’re slowly moving into a more accepting world, there’s still a lot of hate brewing within communities.

Model La’Shaunae Steward is a passionate body positivity activist who featured in a Universal Standard campaign in 2018. After breaking the model stereotype, she’s used her platform to support body positivity and call out the fashion industry for its lack of inclusivity.

I know that I’m helping a lot of girls who don’t see a lot of black, fat girls in [the media],” – La’Shaunae Steward (in an interview for Teen Vogue)

Advocates of the radical body positivity movement such as Gabi Gregg, Ashleigh Tribble, and Enam Asiama have been slaying it in their unique way. We need more people to step up and repossess their rightful places in society.

Fashion with a Purpose

At Elice’s Closet, we fiercely believe that women of color and all sizes should be equally respected. Our commitment to empower women to feel comfortable and at home in their bodies will only open more doors and opportunities.

By working with the right groups and individuals, we hope to create something special.

Elice’s Closet curates casual-chic clothing that has been crafted with a universal aesthetic. Our team has worked hard to offer women an effortless experience to shop for their favorite styles.

We may have come a long way with how a woman’s body is portrayed in the media today, but there’s more work to do.

A Mission of Passion and Love

So how do we change that? We appeal to people in power to take a stand for those who do not have a voice. As a brand, it is our mission to amplify the voices of our fellow sisters.

We will squash cultural toxicity through fashion and empower women to rise above the hate, disrespect, and unacceptance. Our dreams are big, and we’re certain about where we stand and what we believe in.
